Description
We’ve had the pleasure of working with some very memorable ammo cans and military containers over the past few years. Repurposing these treasures in hopes of creating new works of art, collectable pieces and even family heirlooms is what Ammodors is all about. We believe that by giving them a “second mission in life”, we are recognizing, honoring and creating a tangible and long lasting link to the true American heroes that once used them.
None of these containers have been as breathtakingly beautiful, historically significant and rare as this 1917-1918 WWI .30 caliber wooden ammunition box.
Meticulously crafted for the US Military out of solid oak exactly 100 years ago. It originally held fabric belts of .30 cal ammo for the then newly developed Browning M1917 machine gun. Original features include dovetail joints, a spring loaded latch, metal hinge and slotted groves that allowed it to mount on a tripod with a M1917 machine gun. This box is a defining example of the idiom “they don’t make things like they used to”.
At some point during the last 100 years, the original olive drab green paint was stripped off and it was finished with a gorgeous “cherry” or “early american” shade of wood stain.
We have carefully restored this box by giving the wood a much needed deep cleaning, replacing the damaged handle with a custom handmade new leather strap, tightening all the screws and joints, removing rust from all the metal hardware and finally sealing it with mineral oil to protect it’s finish and bring back it’s original shine. This process was done using only all natural and food safe cleaners – with no harmful or damaging chemicals.
The interior has been sealed and lined with 1/4” solid wood Spanish Cedar. It is the preferred lining for high-end humidors since it offers natural protection from tobacco beetles and mold. The joints feature beautiful 45 degree miter angled cuts. The bottom of the outside box then lined with soft, green felt to protect your tabletop surfaces. Just like every Ammodor, it is 100% handcrafted in the USA.
Exterior measures 12.75″ long x 4.5″ deep x 8″ tall. Once lined with Spanish Cedar wood, the interior measures 10.75″ long x 3″ deep x 6.25″ tall. Has 200 cubic inches of volume and is rated to hold 40 cigars (measured using Corona size 5.5″ x 42 ring gauge). For optimal organization and to ensure adequate air circulation, we recommend storing approximately 30 cigars inside.
This is your chance to own a remarkable piece of early 20th century history and one of the most unique and meaningful military themed cigar humidors you will ever find.

Every Ammodor is handcrafted in the good ole USA. Nearly all of our vendors are local Veteran owned small business. We have a “green” manufacturing process and almost 100% of all waste from production is recycled or repurposed.
Please note: Ammodors are built by hand, made to order. Please allow at least 1-3 business days for production of your Ammodor prior to shipment.
Ammodors ammo can humidors are built using surplus ammo cans that have been proudly used by our Armed Forces. Due to this fact, the outside of the can may have minor scratches, dings or light exterior rust. Exterior markings and stencils will vary. Frankly, we think that’s what makes Ammodors so cool! Ammodors are tough, combat tested and look bad ass! If you’re looking for a “pretty” little cigar humidor, look somewhere else.
BEWARE of cheap humidor knockoffs that have copied our products! Since 1998, Ammodors are the original ammo can humidor and are trademarked and patent pending. Imitators use inferior lumber instead of real Spanish Cedar, use cheap veneer instead of solid wood or have poor building techniques and crappy hardware.
