Description
This incredible custom cigar humidor is beautifully handcrafted using an extremely rare, vintage 1960s shipping and storage container designed for the FIM-43 “Redeye” guided missile system. Built by General Dynamics, the FIM-43 was a shoulder fired surface-to-air rocket launcher used to destroy low-flying enemy aircraft.
The FIM-43 “Redeye” was the father of the infamous FIM-92 “Stinger” rocket launcher – which were housed in The Stinger model cases that we’ve converted into Ammodors in the past. The FIM-43 Redeye was retired in the 1980s and replaced by the much more advanced FIM-92 Stinger model that is still in use today.
Late last year we were luckily enough to acquire 3 of these insanely rare cases! Over the the last 10+ years we’ve seen thousands of different US military surplus containers of all shapes and sizes. But this is the first time we’ve ever seen one of these Redeye cases. We didn’t even know there was such a thing until we found these 3 specimens! It’s quite possible they are a few of the only left in existence.
These 3 Redeye cases have been sitting in a collector’s storage room since demilitarized in the 1980s. They are nearly 60 years old and this is the first time they’ve seen the light of day in 40 years. You’ll likely never find another one of these FIM-43 Redeye cases again – not in this condition AND defiantly not one that has been converted into the World’s most bad ass cigar humidor!! Once these 3 are gone, they are gone forever.
The Redeye Ammodor cigar humidor is 100% American made by hand and built-to-order by our master craftsmen Kevin (Owner) and military veterans Jerry and Chad at our Ammodors workshop outside of Richmond, Virginia. Made with solid 1/4″ Spanish Cedar wall and lid lining and 1/4″ Spanish Cedar plywood flooring.
Exterior measures around 66″ x 13″ x 13″ and it weights nearly 100lbs. Once converted, the interior storage area measures around 56″ x 16″ x 15″ and has over 7700 cubic inches of storage volume. It is rated to hold ~ 3550 cigars and boxes (calculated using Corona size 5.5″ x 42 ring gauge cigars with no trays or other interior devices). For optimal organization and to ensure adequate air circulation, we recommend storing approximately 1150 cigars inside.
Features a gorgeous original patina and military stencils on top and sides of the crate. Heavy duty handles on each end and several secure latches around the exterior. It has a rubber gasket ring around the inside of the lid making it 100% air tight and waterproof. Cleaned and sanitized prior to use with our proprietary sterilization process.
Your choice of tray and divider configuration, humidification device, hygrometer and much more. We also offer personalization such as custom decals and painted stencils. Can be customized to fit any request. Contact us with any questions before ordering. This is a 100% custom product – the pictures provided below are of a previous customer build and are for representational purposed only.
Please note: Ammodors are custom built and made to order. Depending on our current order load, it could take 4-8 weeks (or longer) for us to handcraft your humidor. Please allow additional time for delivery and in some cases, time for materials needed to arrive beforehand as well.
Ammodors ammo can humidors are built using “surplus” containers that have been proudly used by our Armed Forces. Due to this fact, the outside of the can may have minor scratches, dings or light exterior rust. Exterior markings and stencils will vary. Frankly, we think that’s what makes Ammodors so cool! Ammodors are tough, combat tested and look bad ass! If you’re looking for a “pretty” little cigar humidor, look somewhere else.
Ammodors believes in giving back to the men and women that put their lives on the line to protect our Country and our freedom – both current generation as well as previous. We make frequent donations non-profit organizations such as Hope For The Warriors®, Humidors For Heroes™, USO and others.
